Pre-voyage risk assessments and voyage planning remain essential, and the necessity of transiting high-risk areas should always be carefully considered. However, where crews find themselves in or near a designated high-risk area, Stella Maris Ukraine, in partnership with The Nautical Institute of Ukraine and the Central Naval Museum of Ukraine, have produced a guidance that covers immediate actions for crew during a missile or drone attack, including advice on unexploded ordnance and recommended first aid provisions.

The industry organisations ICS, BIMCO, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO, IMCA, and OCIMF have worked together to produce guidance aimed at assisting ships in transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The document complements the Best Management Practices Maritime Security (BMP MS) and is intended to support voyage-specific threat and risk assessment, facilitating shipboard and office planning.
